Postcards from Machu Picchu, Peru
EVEN VISITORS WITH DEPTHS OF SCHOLARLY KNOWLEDGE of Machu Picchu stand in wonder when they enter the historic sanctuary. “How?” each asks silently and aloud. How did the Inkas, centuries ago, plan and build this city on a mountaintop in a tropical forest? Explore the terraced levels and you only marvel at the size and grandeur.
It takes planning and effort to travel to Machu Picchu and it takes effort to explore its grounds. You may justifiably say for any travel experience, that words and photos are no substitute for being there. I will rarely say that, but for Machu Picchu, it applies.
I SHARE MACHU PICCHU WITH DIGITAL POSTCARDS / I provide little detail, just views. But to give a little perspective to the size of the sanctuary, note how the photos look relatively free of people. On the day I was there, the site was fully booked and 2,500 people entered the gate. That is how big Machu Picchu is.
